Junior Camera Engineer

Christy Media Solutions is recruiting for a Junior Camera Engineer on behalf of our client, offering an excellent opportunity for someone at the beginning of their engineering career to develop within the world of cinematic broadcast technology.

Our client works at the intersection of cinematic and broadcast workflows, and is looking for someone with strong technical foundations who can learn from an experienced engineering team and progressively build their practical expertise.

The role

Working under the supervision of experienced engineers, you will support the technical team across project preparation and engineering activities. This will include exposure to infrastructure builds, workflow discussions and planning, R&D and technical equipment.

As your knowledge and confidence develop, you will also begin assisting the engineering team on location across a variety of projects.

The supplied role specification also includes testing and maintaining technical equipment, identifying and reporting damaged or missing components, carrying out repairs where possible and supporting visiting clients with equipment demonstrations.

What we're looking for

You'll need a good foundational technical understanding, ideally relating to broadcast, film or television. Knowledge of areas such as networks, signals, signal flows and broadcast workflows will be particularly relevant.

We're also looking for someone who is:

• Confident and able to communicate effectively

• Curious, flexible and enthusiastic about learning

• Proactive with a problem-solving mindset

• Organised with strong attention to detail

• Interested in cameras, lenses and cinematic technology

• Comfortable using macOS and Windows systems

Education and/or experience relating to film, broadcast or engineering is required. Direct professional industry experience is not essential, making this particularly relevant to graduates or candidates at an early stage of their career.

Knowledge of professional camera, lighting and sound equipment is relevant, while familiarity with manufacturers such as ARRI, Sony, Zeiss and Canon would also be useful.

A full clean driving licence is desirable but not essential.

Development

This is a role designed around learning and progression. You'll initially spend significant time training, shadowing experienced engineers and developing your understanding of the company's workflows and technology.

As you become ready to take on more responsibility, you'll gain increasing exposure to on-location projects and the opportunity to develop into a more experienced engineering position.

Salary & working arrangements

The base salary is between £28,000-£30,000

As you progress into formal location work, there is the potential to earn additional location fees and overtime. The initial training period is expected to be approximately six months, during which training/shadowing on location would not attract location fees.
