Application Engineer (Nagoya, Aichi)

ROLE PROFILE

Role Title:           Application Engineer for TOYATA

Role Purpose:         Deliver application engineering requirements for customer release.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead the application engineering tasks for the customer platform.
2. Review customer requirements/specifications and initiate /conduct feasibility studies.
3. Create customer programme requirements and the product listing proposal for all global locations.
4. Prepare the assembly design package for initial review for all global locations.
5. Manage all relevant application engineering tasks/activities in accordance with the customer APQP and GKN’s programme management system deliverables (including pre ‘Design validation’ through stage ‘Design validation’ and inclusive of stage ‘Mass product’) within the framework of GKN’s programme management sign-off system for global applications.
6. Lead the technical response (approval) for the stage ‘Mass product’ change management process.
7. Perform the engineering calculations for joint sizing and make proposals on the joint type. Validate and approve the product performance at each stage of development in accordance with the customer and GKN specifications for all global applications.
8. Obtain boot development source approval and approve the developed product for local customer release launch. Communicate and coordinate this with other transplant applications.
9. Manage and support the creation and update of the assembly DFMEA. Communicate and coordinate this with other transplant applications.
10. Lead internal design reviews and the assembly drawing approval for the local customer release launch. Communicate and coordinate this with other transplant applications.
11. Lead supplier design reviews (DFM and DFA) for local customer release launch. Communicate and coordinate this with other transplant locations.
12. Lead prototype and pre-production sample build reviews for local customer release launch.
13. Authorise the release of the pre-production parts list and structures on the business system for local customer release launch. 
14. Initiate prototype requests and initial tooling authorisation and release to local product launch centres.
15. Prepare test specifications and the test development plan (DVP&R) for customer release.  Approve the Liaison Application Engineer test reports prior to issuing to the Customer for all global applications.
16. Support financial assessments and cost analysis.
17. Co-ordinate the PPAP package preparation with product launch operations through the appropriate Application Liaison Engineers and Product Launch Managers.
18. Support the performance development of the Liaison Application Engineers in the team.
19. Support other DL activities as required.

Competences & experiences

1. University Degree / Technical College with main focus on Mechanical Engineering
2. Vocational experience in the field of engineering within products development, products design
3. Good knowledge of English (spoken and written)
4. Japanese language ability (essential)
5. Extensive experience in the field of automotive engineering, possibly powertrain
6. Knowledge of plant related manufacturing processes and technologies
7. Command of TQC and TPM philosophy
8. Sound knowledge for technology and innovation development
9. Standard level of IT/computer literacy is required
10. Knowledge / experience of Japanese work environment (essential)
11. Ability to successfully implement change in a multi-cultural environment.
12. Capability to conduct/take part in discussions and negotiations on standard level
13. Ability to report clearly on staff level
14. Dynamic personality/ capability of taking initiative/ innovative thinking and motivation as well as enthusiasm for problem and conflict (potential and actual) solving tasks
