These roles will be suited to projects managers experienced in managing and delivering complex projects or programmes within a time pressure and adaptive delivery environment. You must be expert in weaving together many moving parts across multiple streams and with a wide variety of stakeholders. You will play a crucial part in ensuring that Water Hawke’s Bay (WHB) is ready to begin delivering drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater services from 1 July 2027, with a focus on providing safe and reliable water services for generations to come. This is a fixed term role until 30 June 2027.
Water Hawke’s Bay is a council-controlled organisation (CCO) jointly owned by Hastings District, Napier City and Central Hawke’s Bay district councils, established under the Government’s Local Water Done Well Reforms. WHB is governed by an independent and commercially accountable Board; this is a chance to join a high performing team determined to get this right for the region.
These two project managers to join the transition team in the PMO at WHB. You will report to a highly experienced programme manager who has successfully led water reforms in other regions. Your responsibilities span planning, coordinating and monitoring the delivery of assigned workstreams within the Water Hawke’s Bay establishment programmes. Working closely with workstream leads, you’ll break down and sequence tasks, ensure activities are effectively planned, risks and dependencies are managed, and progress is visible through robust reporting and programme controls. You’ll ensure delivery in the correct sequence across each of the workstreams you are sitting across.
We need senior-level project management experience here. You will quickly be able to build credibility and trust across key stakeholders, and be comfortable holding people accountable and driving results. Experience within water or infrastructure is not essential, however project management experience across water services, infrastructure, utilities would be an advantage. It will be your adaptability, pragmatism and the ability to self start in an ambiguous environment that will be key to your success here. You will be comfortable working in a complex, evolving environment where priorities may shift.
