Our state government client is seeking an experienced AO5 Senior Finance Officer to join its Financial Accounting Team within a central corporate finance team!

Your New Role
  
This role offers a blend of financial accounting, reporting, reconciliations and stakeholder support, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working across both technical accounting and operational finance activities. You'll play an important role in supporting month-end, year-end and statutory reporting requirements while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the finance team.

As the Senior Finance Officer, you'll support the delivery of accurate financial reporting, maintain strong financial controls, and assist with day-to-day financial accounting operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare movement schedules, lead schedules, reconciliations and note disclosures to support hard close and annual financial statements.
• Prepare, review and approve month-end journals and reconciliations.
• Review monthly GR-IR reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of issues.
• Prepare GPEVS for bulk accounting billings, including major service providers.
• Support the Financial Accounting Manager with day-to-day team operations and stakeholder advice.
• Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures and reporting guidelines.
• Manage the Quarterly Gifts and Benefits Register and associated reporting requirements.
• Support banking, receipting and refund processes, including BPoint transactions.
• Provide guidance and support to finance team members.
• Manage the finance inbox and respond to stakeholder enquiries.
• Contribute to finance projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

• Experience in financial accounting, reconciliations and financial reporting within a complex organisation.
• Strong understanding of month-end and year-end financial processes.
• Ability to prepare and analyse financial schedules, journals and reconciliations.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Highly Regarded:

• Experience within a government finance environment.
• Strong experience using SAP and the Microsoft Office suite.
• Degree in Accounting, Commerce or Business.
• CPA, CA or equivalent professional membership (beneficial)
