About the Role:
Reporting to the General Manager, Wholesale and Environment, the Data Insights Manager will play a critical role in providing the data driven insights that underpin the Australian Energy Council’s policy development, advocacy and strategic priorities.
Working at the intersection of energy policy, market dynamics and industry transformation, this role will lead the analysis of complex market, regulatory and industry data to support evidence-based advocacy. The role will engage closely with members, government, regulators and industry stakeholders, translating emerging trends and policy developments into meaningful insights that help shape Australia’s energy future. This is an opportunity to influence some of the most significant challenges and opportunities facing the energy sector as it navigates the transition to a reliable, affordable and lower-emissions energy system.
About You:
- You will have strong analytical capability, commercial awareness and experience translating data into practical insights.
- Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving capability.
- The ability to translate complex technical analysis into practical insights for non-technical audiences.
- Sound judgement, commercial awareness and an understanding of how data can support policy influence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to contribute to briefings, reports, submissions and member communications.
- Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and building effective relationships across industry, government and regulatory environments.
- The ability to work autonomously in a small team while collaborating closely with policy, advocacy and communications colleagues.
- Relevant experience in energy, economics, public policy, engineering, data science, market modelling or a related field.
Experience with energy market modelling, Python, PowerBI, Tableau, AEMO market data, NEMreview, Excel/VBA, GAMS, PLEXOS or similar tools will be highly regarded. However, we’re equally interested in speaking with people who can combine analytical depth with policy development, curiosity and stakeholder influence.
This role would suit someone who enjoys building something new and is interested in developing a different approach to measure, explain and influence the energy transition.
