Confidential Job Summary – Finance Director / Head of Finance (Japan)

A senior finance leadership opportunity with a global healthcare organization seeking an experienced finance professional to oversee Japan’s financial operations and act as a strategic business partner to the local leadership team.

The role is responsible for leading the full finance function, including FP&A, accounting, controllership, forecasting, demand planning, and accounts receivable, while providing financial insights to support business growth, profitability, and operational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a strategic advisor to the Japan General Manager and Leadership Team, providing financial analysis, recommendations, and business insights.
• Lead financial planning processes including budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning, and performance reporting.
• Oversee monthly financial reviews, quarterly reporting, financial analysis, and business forecasting activities.
• Manage financial governance, internal controls, compliance, audit processes, taxation, and risk management.
• Drive finance transformation and operational improvements to enhance business performance.
• Lead, coach, and develop the finance team, including talent development and succession planning.
• Partner with cross-functional leaders to ensure financial considerations are incorporated into key business decisions.
• Support commercial initiatives, business development activities, contract negotiations, and profitability improvement opportunities.
• Participate in executive-level operational reviews and contribute to company strategy.

Requirements

Candidate Profile

• 12+ years of finance experience, including 5+ years in senior leadership roles.
• Proven experience leading finance functions within a multinational environment.
• Strong expertise in FP&A, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and business partnering.
• Experience managing and developing finance teams.
• Background in healthcare, pharmaceutical, medical device, or related industries preferred.
• Strong strategic thinking and commercial business acumen.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Professional fluency in both Japanese and English.
• Finance qualification such as CPA/Chartered Accountant preferred; MBA is advantageous.
