Senior Communications Advisor – Major Infrastructure

About the Company
Davidson is partnering with a Queensland Government organisation delivering a significant pipeline of major transport infrastructure projects across the Sunshine Coast.

With several transformational projects moving through active delivery, an opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Communications Advisor to join a regional Communications and Stakeholder Engagement team.

This is an exceptional long-term opportunity for someone who enjoys being close to project delivery and working collaboratively with project teams, contractors, technical specialists and the community.

About the Role
This is not a traditional corporate communications role.

You will be embedded within major infrastructure project delivery, leading communications and stakeholder engagement activities across designated project packages and working closely with both government and contractor delivery teams.

Your role will be highly varied and hands-on. One day you may be developing the stakeholder approach for an upcoming traffic change, while the next could involve responding to community concerns, advising a project manager on an emerging issue or coordinating communications around a significant construction milestone.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Lead communications and stakeholder engagement planning across major infrastructure project packages.
• Work closely with project managers, principal contractors and delivery partners to coordinate timely and accurate communications.
• Plan and deliver communications relating to construction works, traffic changes, project milestones and community impacts.
• Build productive relationships with councils, government agencies, businesses, community groups and affected stakeholders.
• Develop and quality assure project notifications, community updates, consultation materials, stakeholder briefings and other communications.
• Provide strategic advice on stakeholder engagement, emerging issues and reputational risks.
• Proactively identify and help mitigate community and stakeholder risks associated with project delivery.
• Translate complex engineering, technical and construction information into clear and accessible public messaging.
• Manage sensitive stakeholder matters, enquiries and competing priorities with sound judgement.
• Monitor community sentiment and stakeholder feedback to help inform project decision-making.
• Represent the project at stakeholder, contractor and community meetings as required.

About You
You will be an experienced communications and stakeholder engagement professional who is confident operating in complex project and construction environments.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience across transport infrastructure, civil construction, major projects, alliances, joint ventures or contractor-delivered projects.

To be successful, you will ideally bring:

• Demonstrated experience delivering communications and stakeholder engagement for major infrastructure or construction projects.
• Strong exposure to active construction and project delivery, including communicating construction impacts, traffic changes or disruptions.
• Experience working alongside principal contractors, alliance partners, engineering teams or multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong stakeholder relationship management skills and the confidence to influence and advise at senior levels.
• Experience managing community concerns, complaints, sensitive issues and stakeholder risks.
• Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to turn complex technical information into clear public messaging.
• Experience developing communications and engagement strategies, project updates, notifications, briefings and consultation materials.
• The ability to operate independently, exercise sound judgement and manage competing priorities in a fast-moving environment.
• A proactive and solutions-focused approach to stakeholder and community engagement.

Previous Queensland Government or transport infrastructure experience will be highly regarded but is not essential.

IAP2 certification or tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Stakeholder Engagement or a related discipline will also be viewed favourably.
