The Role

• Lead, supervise, mentor and motivate the payroll and billing team to deliver accurate, timely and efficient services every pay cycle.
• Oversee the full end-to-end payroll process for temporary and contract workers across multiple industries using Karmly and Xero, managing complex pay rules and producing pay runs, journals and payslips.
• Manage accurate client billing and invoicing workflows in Karmly, including timesheet approvals and collections, to maintain strong client relationships.
• Ensure full compliance with New Zealand employment legislation, the Holidays Act 2003, PAYE, KiwiSaver, ACC and IRD requirements through precise lodgements, reconciliations and regular audits.
• Generate and analyse real-time margin, cost and payroll reports, providing clear insights that support finance and management decision-making.
• Drive continuous improvement by reviewing processes and implementing changes that increase efficiency and service levels while staying true to organisational values.
• Build effective relationships with recruiters, operations and external clients, resolving escalated queries promptly and ensuring a positive experience for temporary workers.

  
Your Profile

• 5–7 years of end-to-end payroll and billing experience, including 2–3 years in a leadership or supervisory role, ideally within recruitment, labour-hire or another high-volume workforce industry.
• Deep knowledge of New Zealand employment law, the Holidays Act 2003, PAYE, KiwiSaver, ACC and IRD compliance, with proven experience handling complex pay calculations and rules.
• Hands-on proficiency with Tracker, Karmly and Xero (or equivalent recruitment, timesheet and payroll platforms) and the ability to maintain data integrity across systems.
• Strong leadership, analytical problem-solving and stakeholder communication skills, with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset suited to fast-paced environments.
• Natural alignment with values of honesty, expertise, responsiveness and partnership, and a genuine desire to support people through accurate and fair payroll delivery.
