State Director of Project Management - Fit Out

An established and growing commercial fitout contractor is looking to appoint a Regional Director of Project Management – Victoria to join its senior delivery leadership team.

This is a newly created leadership opportunity within a well-established Victorian business, overseeing a project portfolio of approximately $40 million per annum.

The role has been created to support continued growth, strengthen the capability of the project management team and maintain strong delivery performance as the business scales.

You will lead and develop the Victorian Project Management team while continuing to personally deliver larger and more complex projects.
Approximately 50% of the role will be focused on project delivery and 50% on leading, mentoring and developing the PM team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Victorian Project Management team
• Oversee a project portfolio in VIC of approximately $40M per annum
• Personally manage a number of larger and more complex projects, generally up to $6M
• Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to Project Managers and developing talent
• Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, consultants, clients, landlords, building managers and authorities
• Take responsibility for project profitability, commercial performance and risk
• Negotiate and manage head contracts, variations and commercial outcomes
• Develop and manage project programmes and ensure delivery against key milestones
• Maintain oversight of cost planning, procurement, contract administration and project controls
• Identify and manage commercial and delivery risks across the portfolio
• Continue to build and leverage an established Victorian subcontractor and consultant network
• Contribute to the broader national delivery leadership group and strategic direction of the business
• Help develop processes, standards and capability as the Victorian operation continues to grow

About You

We are looking for an experienced commercial fitout professional who has progressed through project delivery and wants to take the next step into senior leadership, without stepping away from projects.

You will ideally have:

• Significant experience delivering commercial fitout, interiors or construction projects
• Experience managing projects above $5M+
• Strong commercial understanding across cost, programme, contracts, variations and risk
• Experience negotiating and administering head contracts
• A strong understanding of project profitability and P&L responsibility
• The ability to develop and manage your own project programmes
• Strong relationships across the Victorian subcontractor and consultant market
• Experience working with clients, consultants, QSs, superintendents, landlords and other project stakeholders
• Leadership or mentoring experience, with the ability to develop high-performing PMs
• A hands-on approach to project delivery and a genuine interest in remaining close to the work
• A relevant qualification in Construction Management, Project Management, Building or a related discipline

Leadership experience is important, but you do not necessarily need to have already hold a Director title. The opportunity could suit an established senior PM ready to step into leadership, as well as an existing construction leader looking for greater responsibility.
