Location: North East (Leeds and Newcastle)
Salary: £60,000 - £75,000
Embankment Group is working on behalf of a leading environmental consultancy to appoint an experienced Ecology Team Lead in the North East.
This is a key regional leadership role for someone who enjoys combining technical ecology, people management and commercial responsibility. The successful candidate will help lead and develop a regional ecology team, support the delivery of complex projects and contribute to the continued growth of ecology services across the North East.
The role would suit an established Principal, Associate or current Team Lead who is confident managing people, projects and client relationships. You will be joining a wider national ecology function with access to multidisciplinary expertise, established systems and a strong project pipeline.
The Role
As Ecology Team Lead, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day management, development and performance of a regional ecology team. You will oversee the delivery of ecological inputs across a varied portfolio of projects, ensuring work is delivered to a high technical standard, on programme and in line with client expectations.
You will remain technically involved, but the role will also include mentoring, resourcing, commercial input, quality assurance and supporting bids and proposals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support a regional ecology team across the North East.
- Manage the delivery of ecological projects from early-stage advice through to final reporting.
- Provide technical review and guidance across surveys, assessments and mitigation strategies.
- Support team development through mentoring, workload planning and technical coaching.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Contribute to bids, fee proposals and commercial planning.
- Work collaboratively with wider environmental, planning and engineering teams.
- Ensure projects are delivered in line with ecological best practice, legislation and quality standards.
About You
You will ideally have:
- Strong experience in ecological consultancy.
- A background operating at Principal, Associate or Team Lead level.
- Experience managing projects, budgets and client relationships.
- A strong understanding of UK ecology legislation, planning policy and best practice guidance.
- Experience mentoring or managing ecologists.
- Excellent communication, organisation and report review skills.
- Full or working towards full membership of CIEEM.
- Protected species licences or specialist technical expertise would be beneficial.
Why Apply?
This is an excellent opportunity for an ecologist who wants to take ownership of a regional team while still remaining involved in technical project delivery. The role offers genuine influence, variety and the opportunity to help shape the growth of ecology services across the North East.
