RobLawMax Recruitment is seeking an experienced Drainage Leading Hand to join a respected civil construction contractor in Wellington. This is an excellent opportunity for a capable drainlayer or senior crew member ready to take on more responsibility, lead a small team, and further develop their leadership skills.

About the Role
As a Drainage Leading Hand, you'll lead a crew of 1–3 people while remaining hands-on in the field. You'll be trusted to organise daily activities, maintain productivity, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
This role offers genuine responsibility and autonomy, making it ideal for someone looking to establish themselves as a site leader and build a long-term career in civil construction.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading and coordinating a small drainage crew
- Setting out and installing sumps and drainage leads
- Completing tie-ins to existing manholes and networks
- Reading and interpreting plans and site drawings
- Using laser levels, rotary lasers, and pipe lasers
- Installing and grading drainage pipework accurately
- Maintaining strong health and safety standards
- Ensuring projects are completed on time and to specification
What We're Looking For
You may already be working as a Leading Hand, or you could be an experienced Drainlayer looking for the opportunity to step into a leadership position.
To be successful, you'll have:
- Strong drainage and civil construction experience
- The ability to work independently and make sound decisions on-site
- A proactive approach to planning and organising work
- Confidence leading by example and supporting team members
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience working around underground services
Advantageous Qualifications
- Previous Leading Hand or Senior Drainlayer experience
- Knowledge of Wellington Water standards and local authority requirements
- Class 2 licence
- WTR endorsements
- Relevant drainage or civil construction qualifications
