Role Title: Platform Engineering Manager for Toyota
Role Purpose: Lead the platform engineering interface with the customer.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the platform engineering interface with the customer.
- Lead the platform engineering team or product application(s) team.
- Lead product application engineering across a vehicle platform, irrespective of model type or brand name, from product launch stage pre ‘Design validation’, through production and inclusive of stage ‘Mass production’.
- Provide full engineering support to: Product launch teams in all GKN operations involved in the launch of products for a vehicle platform (i.e. Stage ‘Design validation’); Manufacturing development teams during subsequent manufacturing change programmes (i.e. stage ‘Mass production’), including the authorisation of engineering changes.
- Identify the platform engineering team or product application team resource requirements and structure.
- Define and obtain agreement for the programme plan (targets, timing, resources, spend etc.) to implement ‘Design validation’ & ‘Muss production’ phase engineering activities and changes.
- Manage and deliver vehicle platform programmes in accordance with both the customer APQP and GKN’s process deliverables, activities, procedures and programme management sign off system. Includes responsibility for:-product validation/homologation approval; change request/control; prototypes & production sample builds; design FMEA (support process FMEA);deviations; standardisation; testing & report authorisation; supplier parts.
- Manage product selection recommendations, for approval by the account team, in accordance with GKN’s process.
- Ensure the delivery of data & designs to support all relevant commercial activities within the account team (e.g. new enquiry, VA/VE, process change, face-lift, product design changes).
- Liaise with the GKN ‘Customer Liaison’ and / or ‘Resident Engineer’.
- Work as and when required with GKN product and process specialists for advanced engineering discussions/proposals (phase Development), product application, product launch & problem solving (phase Design validation / Mass production).
- Support the performance development of Application/Design Engineers.
- Support other GKN activities as required.
Competences & experiences
- University Degree / Technical College with main focus on Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
- Vocational experience in the field of engineering within products development, products design
- Good knowledge of English (spoken and written)
- Japanese language ability (essential)
- Extensive experience in the field of automotive engineering, possibly powertrain
- Knowledge of plant related manufacturing processes and technologies
- Command of TQC and TPM philosophy
- Sound knowledge for technology and innovation development
- A high level of IT/computer literacy is required
- Knowledge / experience of Japanese work environment (essential)
- Ability to successfully implement change in a multi-cultural environment.
- Capability to conduct/take part in discussions and negotiations on a high level
- Ability to report clearly on management level
- Dynamic personality/ capability of taking initiative/ innovative thinking and motivation as well as enthusiasm for problem and conflict (potential and actual) solving tasks
