Apply directWe are seeking an experienced Infection Preventionist Nurse to join our skilled nursing team in the Uptown/Edgewater area of Chicago. This is an important leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving the facility’s infection prevention and control program.
The ideal candidate is a knowledgeable and proactive Nurse who understands skilled nursing facility regulations, infection prevention practices, antibiotic stewardship, surveillance, and CMS requirements and can effectively partner with nursing leadership and the interdisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program.
- Conduct ongoing infection surveillance, identify trends, and implement appropriate interventions.
- Investigate infections and potential outbreaks and coordinate appropriate response measures.
- Develop, implement, and monitor infection prevention policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Ensure compliance with CMS, CDC, IDPH, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Monitor staff compliance with hand hygiene, PPE, isolation precautions, and other infection prevention practices.
- Provide education and competency training to nursing and other facility staff.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
- Maintain accurate infection prevention documentation, surveillance records, and reports.
- Work closely with the Director of Nursing, Medical Director, Administrator, and interdisciplinary team.
- Monitor antibiotic utilization and support the facility’s antibiotic stewardship program.
- Prepare for and participate in regulatory surveys and infection prevention audits.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and develop corrective action plans when necessary.
Qualifications
- Current Illinois Nursing license required.
- Previous experience in long-term care/skilled nursing strongly preferred.
- Infection Prevention and Control experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of CDC and CMS infection prevention guidelines and long-term care regulations.
- Experience with infection surveillance, outbreak investigation, and employee education.
- Strong clinical assessment, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with nursing and facility leadership.
- Infection Preventionist certification (CIC, IP-BC, or similar) is a plus.
