Position Summary

 The Double Pallet Jack Operator safely operates an electric end-rider double pallet jack to transport, stage, load, and unload palletized products throughout a temperature-controlled food distribution center. Working primarily in cooler and freezer environments ranging from 34 degrees F to -10 degrees F, this role requires rapid, high-accuracy order selection and material movement while adhering strictly to OSHA regulations and food safety standards.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate a motorized electric double pallet jack to transport product loads efficiently across dock and freezer floors.
  • Receiving & Staging: Unload inbound shipments, verify load stability, and transport incoming goods to specified cold storage locations or staging lanes.
  • Order Selection & Loading: Accurately pick full-pallet quantities using automated systems (RF scanners or Voice-to-Pick), ensuring proper weight distribution before loading outbound trailers.
  • Pre-Shift Inspections: Perform mandatory daily pre-operation safety checks on assigned equipment (brakes, steering, controls, battery status) and document findings per regulatory standards.
  • Cold-Chain Integrity: Execute tasks efficiently to ensure product exposure to ambient temperatures is minimized, strictly preserving the cold chain.
  • Chemical & Safety: Maintain a clean work environment by removing shrink wrap, damaged pallets, and debris from walkways. Comply with all standard warehouse safety guidelines and immediately report any product damages or equipment malfunctions.
 
Required Qualifications & Competencies
 
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience operating a powered industrial truck, specifically a motorized electric rider pallet jack, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Licensing & Certification: Must possess or be able to successfully pass the employer-administered OSHA Class III Powered Industrial Truck Certification within the first week of employment.
  • Technical Skills: Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS) and RF scanning barcode devices.
  • Mathematical Competency: Ability to read numbers, perform basic addition and subtraction, and visually confirm accuracy on inventory pick sheets.
 
Physical Demands & Work Environment
 
  • Temperature Extremes: Constant exposure to sub-freezing temperatures (34 degrees F down to -10 degrees F). Proper thermal personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and ride on the equipment platform for extended periods throughout an 8- to 10-hour shift.
  • Heavy Lifting: Ability to frequently lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighting up to 60 lbs without assistance to restack or secure shifted loads.
  • Agility: Frequent bending, crouching, reaching, and twisting while managing loads and navigating tight warehouse aisles.
