About the Opportunity
A leading global technology consultancy is seeking an experienced API Engineer to support a major Australian organisation operating in the banking and financial services sector.
This hands-on role will contribute to the end-to-end delivery of an API-focused program. You will work with business stakeholders, technical specialists, developers, and delivery teams to define requirements, document API solutions, and build robust, scalable integrations.
Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the end-to-end delivery of the API program.
• Participate in requirements discussions with business stakeholders.
• Help finalise functional specifications and interface documentation.
• Work with business teams to define functional requirements for new services.
• Collaborate with technical leads and business stakeholders during reviews and sign-offs.
• Document and communicate changes within an Agile delivery environment.
• Produce API requirements, designs, and functional specifications.
• Apply microservices design principles to API and integration solutions.
• Design and develop robust interfaces that integrate different systems and technologies.
• Collaborate with development teams on technical ideas and applications.
• Support internal and external consultants across workshops and delivery engagements.
• Assist with the mentoring of junior consultants.
• Help remediate software issues relating to code quality, security, frameworks, and design patterns. ,

Required Skills and Experience

• Previous experience delivering API frameworks and integration solutions.
• Strong understanding of microservices design principles.
• Commercial development experience with:
  • Java 8 or later
  • Spring Framework 5.x
  • Spring Boot 2.x
  • JUnit 5
  • Mockito
  • Java-based logging frameworks
  • Postman
  • Modern integrated development environments
• Experience with infrastructure or DevOps design.
• Strong API requirements, design, and functional-specification documentation skills.
• Previous experience delivering technology projects within banking.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to produce clean, efficient code using test-driven development.
• Experience addressing code-quality and application-security issues. ,

Desirable Experience
Knowledge or practical experience with the following would be advantageous:

• Maven
• Git
• Splunk
• Bamboo
• Swagger
• Software design patterns and standards
