SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER

The Company
Our client is a large, complex organisation delivering a landmark, state-significant major project encompassing advanced research and specialist health infrastructure. With construction now moving into a critical delivery phase, our client is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead delivery oversight, contract administration and systems integration through to successful completion, commissioning and handover.

This is a rare opportunity to take a senior, client-side leadership role on one of the region's most technically complex and highly visible construction projects, working within a robust governance and public-accountability environment.

The Role
Reporting to a senior member of the project leadership team, you will act as the client's representative under the construction contract and take ownership of delivery performance, technical integration and stakeholder outcomes across the remaining life of the project.

Key responsibilities:

• Acting as the Principal's Representative under the construction contract, exercising sound commercial judgement in the assessment of progress claims, variations, extensions of time and contractual correspondence.
• Monitoring contractor performance against scope, specification, program and budget, and leading the resolution of commercial and contractual issues, including claims and disputes.
• Managing the construction program and critical path, validating progress against approved baselines and implementing mitigation or recovery strategies where required.
• Overseeing design management during delivery, including contractor design, shop drawings and technical submittals, and ensuring design intent is reflected in delivered outcomes.
• Leading coordination of highly complex building services and specialist systems, including HVAC and pressure regimes, containment systems, backup power, ICT and specialist research infrastructure.
• Directing commissioning strategy and execution, including staged commissioning, systems testing, performance verification and operational readiness.
• Managing project budget, contingency and variations, and providing high-quality reporting to governance and executive stakeholders on program, cost, risk and performance.
• Maintaining the project risk register and ensuring risks are identified, escalated and controlled in line with governance expectations.
• Overseeing practical completion, handover documentation, defects rectification and transition into operations.
• Building and maintaining trusted relationships across technical, operational and executive stakeholder groups throughout delivery.

You
You will be an accomplished project delivery professional with a track record of success on major, technically complex construction projects, ideally within a research, health, science, laboratory or alternative live environment. You will bring:

• Tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications in project management, construction management, engineering, architecture, building or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in a client-side project leadership role, including contract administration on major construction contracts.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex technical building systems and interfaces, including mechanical, electrical, ICT and specialist infrastructure.
• The ability to operate confidently within robust governance, assurance and audit environments, including public sector style accountability requirements.
• Outstanding stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills, with the credibility to engage confidently at executive level.
