Controller - Remote


We are seeking a hands-on Controller to own the accounting operations of a fast-growing, venture-backed digital media and subscription business. This role will be responsible for managing the monthly close, improving accounting processes, and ensuring accurate GAAP-compliant financial reporting across high-volume transaction platforms.


This is a roll-up-your-sleeves role for someone who enjoys solving complex accounting challenges, improving systems, and working with large datasets.


Key Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close process including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis
  • Reduce the close timeline from ~30 days to ~10 days through process improvements
  • Maintain GAAP-compliant accounting across subscription and transactional revenue streams
  • Manage revenue recognition, cost of revenue, and royalty-related accounting
  • Reconcile large transaction data sets from platforms such as Stripe, Apple, Google, and Roku
  • Improve and standardize accounting processes and controls
  • Support bank debt reporting, audits, and financial reviews
  • Provide reporting to support sales tax and other compliance requirements


Team Structure

  • Reports to the VP of Finance & Accounting
  • Works alongside a Senior Accountant
  • Collaborates with data analysts on large transaction datasets

** This role will begin as an individual contributor role and grow into a leadership role as the company grows.


Qualifications

  • Experience as a Senior Accountant or Controller in a growth-stage company
  • Proven ability to own and manage the full monthly close
  • Strong GAAP accounting knowledge
  • Experience working with large financial datasets and multiple data sources
  • Experience with subscription, SaaS, streaming, or recurring revenue models preferred
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Stripe, Apple, Google, Roku, or similar payment systems
  • CPA preferred but not required


Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $120,000 – $145,000 depending on experience
  • Annual performance bonus
