Location: Plymouth, MI - Hybrid

Duration: 5-month contract (through end of year)

Schedule: Standard working hours, 8 hours daily (may fall outside standard hours to support global time zones)

Pay Range: $66–71/hr

Travel: Up to 50%, including international travel

Job Summary

Our client, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, is seeking a Service Supplier Development Engineer to join their Service Supplier Quality Engineering team. In this role, you will work alongside cross-functional teams to drive quality requirements and manage contract manufacturers' quality performance, ensuring seamless scaling of production. Your contributions will directly impact the performance and quality of service parts, supporting successful launches for new programs and proper management of current ones, with a focus on service part PPAP.

Job Responsibilities

In this role, you will manage and support supplier industrialization and quality performance within the Service Supplier Quality Engineering department. Key responsibilities include:

• Engaging with suppliers on industrialization and readiness for multiple automotive components
• Supporting supplier selection and capability assessment for various projects, ensuring alignment with program timelines and quality expectations
• Driving APQP discipline and enforcing PPAP requirements, ensuring suppliers meet dimensional, material, and performance validation before production approval
• Tracking industrialization project KPIs, internally and externally, to assess supplier readiness
• Evaluating and validating supplier manufacturing processes by leading process audits, PFMEA reviews, control plan validation, and equipment capability/Run@Rate assessments
• Optimizing supplier manufacturing scalability, ensuring production lines can meet increasing volume and quality expectations during ramp-up phases
• Monitoring supplier industrialization performance through KPIs such as on-time PPAP submission, process capability indices (Cpk/Ppk), defect rates (PPM), issue closure rate, and supplier corrective action effectiveness
• Facilitating problem resolution using structured methodologies (focused problem solving) to proactively address defects, process deviations, and launch roadblocks
• Collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and supply chain teams to drive VA/VE cost optimization, ensuring seamless design implementation into supplier manufacturing processes while maintaining quality and performance standards

Essential Job Duties and Job Functions

• Ability to stand, sit, or walk for 8–10 hours per day
• Required to communicate using phone and/or email
• Ability to view, read, and interpret documents
• Ability to perform all duties in an office environment that may contain ambient noise and temperature fluctuations
• Ability to travel internationally, up to 50%

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA) development, Lean manufacturing, and traceability requirements
• Technical expertise in automotive component design and manufacturing, including safety and test requirements and the appearance approval process
• Knowledge of Geometric Design and Tolerancing (GD&T) and datum structures
• Experience with extrusion and fabrication commodities
• VDA 6.3 credentials and understanding preferred
• In-depth knowledge of IATF16949:2016 and understanding of ISO14001; ISO9001 knowledge also preferred

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field
