Senior Software Engineer (Contract) Melbourne | 6-Month Contract | Hybrid Working

We're partnering with a respected professional services organisation undergoing significant technology transformation and are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team.

This is a hands-on senior engineering role where you'll design, build and operate modern cloud-native solutions while contributing to technical direction, engineering standards and architectural decisions.

What You'll Be Doing

• Designing and building scalable cloud-native applications, APIs and integrations
• Developing event-driven and serverless solutions using modern cloud platforms
• Providing technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring and engineering best practices
• Collaborating with architects, product owners and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions
• Contributing to the modernisation of existing platforms and applications
• Championing DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing and observability practices
• Ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, maintainable and cost-effective

What We're Looking For

• Strong commercial experience as a Senior Software Engineer or similar role
• Expertise with TypeScript and Node.js (Next.js experience highly regarded)
• Experience building cloud-native applications on Azure, AWS or GCP
• Proven delivery of distributed, event-driven and asynchronous systems
• Strong understanding of APIs, integration patterns and modern software architecture
• Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and cloud observability practices
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments

Nice to Have

• Experience with serverless architectures
• NoSQL database experience, including data modelling and optimisation
• Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS or GCP)
• Experience modernising legacy applications and platforms
• Exposure to highly regulated or enterprise environments
