We're partnering with a global technology organisation seeking a Senior Systems Development Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team responsible for delivering highly secure, large-scale cloud infrastructure and platform services.

This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, systems engineering and cloud operations, making it ideal for someone who enjoys building scalable solutions while improving reliability, automation and operational excellence.

You'll work on complex technical challenges within a highly secure environment, contributing to critical infrastructure platforms that support large-scale customer and business workloads.

The Role As a Senior Systems Development Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing, building and supporting automation, tooling and platform capabilities that improve the scalability, reliability and security of cloud-based services.

Working alongside engineers, architects and technical leaders, you'll help solve challenging distributed systems problems while driving continuous improvement across engineering and operational practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy scalable systems and automation solutions
• Build tools and platform capabilities that improve operational efficiency
• Enhance system reliability, security and performance across large-scale environments
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure and application issues
• Contribute to architecture, systems design and technical decision-making
• Drive automation and process improvement initiatives
• Collaborate across engineering teams to deliver secure and resilient platforms
• Support operational excellence through monitoring, observability and continuous improvement

Skills & Experience

• Experience in Systems Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps or Software Engineering roles
• Strong Linux/Unix administration and troubleshooting experience
• Software development experience in one or more of the following: Python, Go, Java, C#, C++ or PowerShell
• Experience building automation and operational tooling
• Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and distributed systems
• Experience designing and supporting highly available, scalable production environments
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Experience operating within complex enterprise or large-scale technology environments

Highly Regarded

• Experience working with large-scale distributed systems
• Public cloud experience across AWS, Azure or GCP
• Infrastructure as Code and automation expertise
• Experience with SRE and operational excellence practices
• Exposure to government, defence or other highly regulated environments
• Security-focused engineering and platform operations experience

Requirements

• Australian Citizenship
• Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance
