Construction Manager – Substation & Transmission Projects

Location: Near Abilene, TX

Schedule: Standard Office Hours

Duration: 12-Month Contract

Pay Rate: Up to $52.13/hour

We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead the field execution of major substation and transmission construction projects. This role serves as the primary field representative, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with engineering requirements, contract documents and project schedules.

The successful candidate will spend approximately 80% of their time in the field providing construction oversight and 20% supporting office-based planning, reporting and coordination activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead field execution of substation and transmission construction projects.
• Review construction drawings, engineering packages, specifications and contract documents.
• Coordinate project kick-off meetings and contractor mobilisation activities.
• Review contractor safety plans and promote a proactive safety culture across all project activities.
• Monitor project schedules, milestones and critical path activities while escalating risks or delays.
• Verify construction materials against engineering bills of materials and drawings.
• Track material deliveries, shortages and damaged equipment.
• Ensure compliance with environmental permits, SWPPP requirements and regulatory obligations.
• Perform daily field inspections and construction quality walkdowns.
• Ensure work complies with engineering specifications, project standards and QA/QC requirements.
• Prepare daily and weekly progress reports, project trackers and construction documentation.
• Review contractor invoices and monitor project costs and budget variances.
• Support contract administration and resolve field construction issues.
• Coordinate closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, environmental specialists, safety teams and other project stakeholders.
• Maintain effective communication throughout all phases of construction.

Required Qualifications

• Experience managing substation, transmission or large industrial construction projects.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, engineering documents and technical specifications.
• Knowledge of contractor management, construction sequencing and field execution.
• Experience with construction safety programmes and environmental compliance.
• Strong material management and quality assurance experience.
• Ability to monitor project schedules and report construction progress.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and standard computer applications.

Preferred Experience

• Utility or power transmission construction.
• High-voltage substation construction.
• EPC contractor coordination.
• Brownfield and greenfield construction projects.
• Contract administration and project reporting.
• QA/QC inspections and construction documentation.
