Healthcare Facilities Maintenance | Part-Time | Immediate Start

FRS Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of a healthcare client for a General Operative / Semi-Skilled Labourer to join the Maintenance Department at a busy healthcare facility in Portlaoise, Co. Laois.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced maintenance or construction operative seeking a stable role within a healthcare environment. The successful candidate will support the maintenance team in ensuring hospital buildings, grounds, and facilities are maintained to the highest standards.

Position Details

• Part-time position – 15 hours per week
• Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 12:00pm
• Initial 3-month contract with potential for extension
• Based in Portlaoise, Co. Laois

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance and repair work across hospital buildings and grounds.
• Assist skilled tradespeople including carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and maintenance craftsmen.
• Perform minor repairs including painting, tiling, plasterboard repairs, shelving installation, and general building maintenance.
• Conduct routine checks and preventative maintenance activities.
• Assist with grounds maintenance including grass cutting, hedge trimming, litter collection, and upkeep of outdoor areas.
• Carry out minor plumbing repairs, unblock drains, sinks, and toilets when required.
• Replace bulbs and undertake basic maintenance tasks within competency levels.
• Support waste collection and transportation activities across the hospital campus.
• Assist with repairs to footpaths, paving, ceilings, signage, gutters, and other building fabric elements.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and follow work request systems.
• Operate tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Drive HSE vehicles when required.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

• Junior Certificate (or equivalent qualification).
• Minimum 5 years' experience in construction, facilities maintenance, building maintenance, or a related trade environment.
• Full Category B driving licence.
• Good practical knowledge of general building trades and maintenance activities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong awareness of health and safety practices.
• Willingness to undertake Safe Pass training if not already completed.

Desirable

• Experience working in healthcare, public sector, commercial, or industrial facilities.
• Experience using power tools and maintenance equipment.
• Plant and machinery operation experience.
• Tickets or certification for equipment such as cherry pickers, telehandlers, or tractors.
