Over the course of the next few years, they will continue to upgrade their facilities and equipment, improving the way specialist users conduct experiments and undertake research programs. With a diverse and highly regarded team of scientists and engineers working across a variety of disciplines, spanning controls software & mechatronic hardware, data acquisition and processing pipelines, databases, web applications and modern web GUIs. They currently have a new opportunity for a Senior Controls Engineer and are looking for a committed team member to join their Melbourne facility.
About the position
The Senior Controls Engineer will be responsible for design, development, operation, and maintenance of specialised Controls Systems applications for Australian based R&D facilities. With a strong focus on improving and streamlining the safe operation of experiments and the support of users throughout the life cycle of their research and experiment programs. You will be expected to work collaboratively with the engineering and science groups, supporting the development of control systems required for world-class highly specialised equipment.
Duties and responsibilities
In this technically advanced role you will work closely with other controls engineers on design documentation, commissioning, and acceptance testing of all aspects of the various control systems with a particular emphasis on improving the existing control systems across facilities in Vic and NSW.

Essential Requirements
- Be able to work in a systematic method to document, test and deploy changes to existing and new PLC based control solutions in use on site
- Have a deep understanding of international and Australian safety of machinery standards (AS4024) and be able to carry out risk assessments, with relevant certifications in safety of machinery (desirable)
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics. Experience with AutoCAD, Zuken E3 or equivalent platforms to develop electrical schematics (desirable)
- Experience with Siemens Simatic S7/TIA Portal, Schneider Modicon/Control Expert, Pilz PSS4000 or Beckhoff PLCs and programming environments (desirable)
- Knowledge and experience of Profinet, OPC UA, Modbus or EtherCAT industrial
- Communication protocols (desirable)
- Knowledge and experience of safe motion (e.g., Siemens, Beckhoff) and/or robotic (e.g. Kuka, Stäubli) systems (desirable)
- Experience with Linux, SQL, and Python or C++ programming (desirable)
- Ability to become registered as a professional engineer in Victoria (advantageous)
