Key Responsibilities:
- Lead end-to-end accounting processes, including AP, AR, billing, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and cash management.
- Manage monthly close cycles, general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation in GAAP compliance.
- Collaborate with external firms on audits, tax filings, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Optimize and implement accounting software, ERP systems such as NetSuite or QuickBooks, and billing platforms like Stripe or Aleph.
- Partner with Sales, Legal, and Operations teams on contract management and revenue recognition to ensure seamless workflow.
- Oversee the management of bespoke client invoices, multi-tiered billing, and collections for a portfolio of Fortune 500 clients.
- Support strategic financial planning, process improvement, and automation initiatives to scale company growth.
Required Skills:
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years managing accounting processes and month-end close.
- Deep expertise in GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and financial reporting standards.
- Proven experience managing ERP and billing platforms such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, Ramp, Stripe, or Aleph.
- Strong operational insight with a hands-on approach to implementing scalable workflows in a startup environment.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- CPA certification strongly preferred.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience in SaaS or subscription-based industries.
- Familiarity with SaaS billing systems like Rillet or Stripe.
- Ability to utilize automation tools to streamline financial operations.
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- 7+ years of relevant experience, with substantial leadership in a startup or tech environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Hybrid work model (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) in New York; open to fully remote candidates, especially for temporary roles.
- High adaptability to a fast-paced, hands-on startup culture where flexibility and initiative are prized.
- Willingness to work beyond traditional hours during close periods or critical deadlines.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening as required.
