Iberdrola is now recruiting for a Senior Control Systems Engineer to be based ideally from their Sydney or Brisbane office. A Melbourne location may also be considered.

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager – OT, this role will provide technical expertise in renewable energy control systems across operational assets, operational improvement projects and major generation projects. The role acts as the senior technical authority for plant control systems and associated interfaces, ensuring that they support safe, reliable, compliant and commercially effective asset performance.

Some specific responsibilities include:

· Provide subject matter expertise in renewable energy control systems, including wind farms, solar farms, battery energy storage systems, substations and associated grid-connected infrastructure.

· Act as the technical authority for plant control systems, including Power Plant Controllers, Energy Management Systems, RTACs, data aggregators, inverter and turbine control systems, protection system interfaces, dispatch interfaces and associated communications networks.

· Identify technical non-conformances, design deficiencies and system integration issues, and develop technically robust solutions that align with business, operational and regulatory requirements.

· Lead the resolution of complex or multidisciplinary issues, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders as required.

· Support major generation and energy storage projects by developing technical requirements, responding to RFIs, reviewing vendor designs and assessing technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.

· Ensure that site SCADA and control systems are effectively integrated into Iberdrola Australia’s enterprise and operational environments.

· Support testing and commissioning activities, providing SME support for timely issue resolution.

· Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, maintainability or operational efficiency across the asset lifecycle.

· Scope and review control system changes to ensure plant behaviour, compliance obligations, operational requirements and system integrity are maintained.


About You

To be successful in this role you will have relevant qualifications and strong experience in electrical and control systems engineering, and demonstrable control, SCADA and communication systems experience within the renewable energy sector or a comparable industrial environment.

Your excellent interpersonal skills allow you to build effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, resulting in exceptional performance.



You will bring

· A Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems or an equivalent discipline

· Experience supporting renewable energy or infrastructure projects through design, commissioning and operations.

· Proven ability to review technical documentation, identify design or integration issues, and troubleshoot complex control and communications systems.

· Experience configuring, testing or commissioning control, SCADA and OT systems within critical infrastructure environments.

· Familiarity with OT cybersecurity principles and regulatory obligations relevant to critical energy infrastructure.

· Working knowledge of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and relevant Rules, and compliance obligations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
