2027 UUSA Operational Excellence Intern

We’re looking for motivated students to be part of a dynamic 11-week paid internship where you’ll work on impactful projects and gain real-world experience, all while supporting our mission to improve health and improve lives.

Provide practical learning opportunities for students pursuing careers in Industrial Engineering, Operational Excellence, Continuous Improvement, Lean methodologies, or related disciplines. The Operational Excellence Intern will support improvement initiatives across the Urenco USA enrichment facility while gaining hands-on experience in process improvement, data analysis, problem solving, project management, and cross-functional collaboration within a highly regulated nuclear fuel enrichment environment.

Our Hiring Process
We are accepting applications NOW through November 1st, 2026. Our internship is highly competitive and will have different process stages during the application phase.

Program Summary

• May 2027 through August 2027 (11 weeks) internship program
• Must be able to work at least 40 hours per week for the duration of the program
• Work location: Eunice, NM
• Supplementary group learning sessions
• One on one mentoring
• Opportunities for presentations and high level networking

Compensation

• Paid Internship $21/hour paid bi-weekly
• Company sponsored Housing & Utilities

Candidate Requirements / Eligibility

• Must be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university pursuing a 4 year degree in Industrial Engineering or Organizational Leadership
• Coursework in Lean Principles, Process Improvement, Statistics, Operations Management, or Quality Systems.
• Experience with Power BI or similar analytical tools.
• 2 years of college courses completed
• Able to work ALL 11 weeks (May through August) of the internship program
• Work Schedule: Professional work schedule/M-F 9/80 work schedule
• Security Clearance Requirement: CAA Access and successfully pass a security clearance, background verification and drug free screening process
• Work Environment: General Office. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc.
• Responsible for the protection of confidential and proprietary information received during employment, including keeping information in strict confidence, exercising a reasonable degree of care to prevent disclosure to others, not disclosing or divulging either directly or indirectly information to others, and not using the information commercially or for any other purpose other than the performance of their duties for Urenco. Confidential information includes information and data of any kind concerning any matters affecting or relating to Urenco business or operations, including compensation, investigations, financial controls, etc.

Essential Functions

• Support Operational Excellence initiatives utilizing Lean, Continuous Improvement, and Industrial Engineering principles.
• Collect, organize, analyze, and interpret operational and engineering data to identify opportunities for process and performance improvement.
• Assist with process observations, workflow analysis, value stream mapping, and waste elimination activities.
• Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving efforts to improve operational effectiveness, efficiency, and reliability.
• Develop reports, dashboards, presentations, and visual management tools to communicate findings, recommendations, and project results.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, maintenance, and support organizations on improvement projects and process optimization activities.
• Document process improvements, standard work, lessons learned, and project outcomes.
• Support initiatives focused on safety, quality, operational reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
• Present project results and recommendations to Operational Excellence leadership and other stakeholders.
• Demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, initiative, and a willingness to learn new technologies, systems, and methodologies.
