Position Overview
The Patient Finance Specialist supports the Arizona State Hospital's Patient Finance team by managing daily patient trust fund transactions and performing a variety of accounting and financial recordkeeping duties. This position is responsible for maintaining patient accounts, processing deposits and withdrawals, balancing financial records, and providing excellent customer service to patients, staff, guardians, and family members.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain individual patient trust fund accounts and resident trust funds.
- Process cash disbursements, check deposits, and daily financial transactions.
- Balance cash drawers and investigate any shortages or overages.
- Enter and reconcile daily deposits and maintain accurate financial records.
- Review and approve patient withdrawal requests.
- Maintain ledger accounts and document all financial transactions.
- Process cash and check payments for maintenance and personal spending accounts.
- Prepare daily bank deposits for various funds.
- Respond to questions from patients, staff, guardians, and family members regarding patient accounts.
- Follow established banking policies, financial procedures, and record retention requirements.
- Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of accounting principles and financial recordkeeping.
- Experience maintaining ledgers, journals, and financial records.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience reconciling accounts and reviewing financial data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing confidential financial information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized accounting systems.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service in a diverse and inclusive environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous accounting, bookkeeping, banking, or finance experience.
- Experience handling cash, deposits, and account reconciliation.
- Knowledge of Performance Management (PM), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), or Lean methodologies.
- Experience working in a healthcare, hospital, or government environment.
Pre-Employment Requirements
As this position is located at the Arizona State Hospital (ASH), selected candidates must complete the following during onboarding:
- Rubella/Rubeola Titers or MMR Vaccination
- Hepatitis B Titer or Hepatitis B Vaccination
- Varicella Titer or Varicella Vaccination
- Current TB Skin Test or Quantiferon TB (within the past 12 months)
- N-95 Mask Fit Test
