Multiple positions | Regulatory investigations | Up to 12 months

If you have established experience in investigations, regulatory compliance, intelligence or related work, this is an opportunity to apply your expertise to complex matters within a Commonwealth regulatory environment.

Davidson Executive & Talent is recruiting multiple Investigations Officers at APS5 and APS6 equivalent levels for an expanding regulatory function in Canberra.

These are experienced-level roles requiring strong investigative and analytical capability, sound judgement and confidence working with complex evidence, financial information, data and intelligence.

Appointment at APS5 or APS6 level will depend on your experience, capability and the level of responsibility you have previously undertaken.

The opportunity

You will investigate, or support investigations into, potential non-compliance and avoidance activity within a complex regulatory environment.

You will draw on information from multiple sources to identify patterns, risks and potential issues. Your findings will help decision-makers determine where further compliance or regulatory action may be required.

Depending on your experience and level, you will:

  • Conduct or support complex regulatory investigations
  • Gather, review, analyse and document evidence and information
  • Examine financial records and other documentation to identify discrepancies, gaps and potential issues
  • Use data and intelligence to identify high-risk behaviours, entities and activities
  • Identify patterns and indicators of potential non-compliance
  • Apply risk-based approaches to investigation activities
  • Develop clear, evidence-based findings and advice
  • Prepare investigation reports, briefs and correspondence for decision-makers
  • Contribute to targeted compliance and regulatory strategies
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and other team members
  • At APS6 level, independently manage more complex investigations and provide guidance and support to junior team members

APS6 officers will work with greater autonomy and accountability. You will be expected to progress complex investigations, exercise sound judgement and produce high-quality material that can support regulatory decision-making.

Who we're looking for

These are not entry-level opportunities. We are looking for experienced professionals with backgrounds in one or more of the following areas:

  • Government investigations
  • Regulatory investigations
  • Compliance investigations
  • Fraud and integrity
  • Financial investigations
  • Intelligence and risk analysis
  • Regulatory enforcement
  • Audit or forensic review
  • Commonwealth, state or territory regulatory agencies
  • Other evidence-based investigative environments

You will bring strong analytical and investigative capability, sound judgement and clear written communication skills.

You should be comfortable working through complex information, identifying what does and does not add up, documenting your findings and producing evidence-based advice that can withstand scrutiny.

For APS6 opportunities, we are particularly interested in candidates who can independently progress complex investigations, apply risk-based decision-making and prepare high-quality briefs and reports. Experience guiding or supporting less experienced officers will also be important.

A Certificate IV in Government Investigations (PSP40416) is highly desirable. Candidates with strong relevant experience who are willing to undertake the qualification may also be considered, with AEC support available to complete the qualification.
