Director, Planning & Environment
Few councils in metropolitan Sydney offer a planning canvas quite like Strathfield. Compact, well-connected, and genuinely diverse, the inner-western LGA sits at the centre of one of the most significant urban renewal agendas in the state. The Homebush Transport Oriented Development Masterplan is reshaping a major precinct - unlocking capacity for 40,000 additional residents in a high-rise setting alongside Sydney Olympic Park. Strathfield Town Centre is being reimagined. The broader LGA, currently home to 46,000 residents, is projected to exceed 60,000 by 2041. This is not a council managing incremental change. It is a council defining what its community looks like for a generation.
The Director Planning & Environment joins an executive team with genuine ambition for the LGA.

- Developing the planning narrative for the LGA’s growth agenda, engaging state agencies, developers, and community to advocate for quality outcomes and targeted investment
- Leading delivery of the LEP, DCP, LSPS, contributions plans, and precinct masterplans through a live and evolving housing reform environment
- Providing strategic and policy advice to the General Manager, Executive Team, and Councillors
- Overseeing the Strathfield Local Planning Panel and the full suite of regulatory and compliance functions
- Managing the directorate’s budget and operational performance in alignment with Council’s Delivery Program and Community Strategic Plan
About You
You are a senior planning executive who has earned credibility across either the strategic or statutory functions. You understand the current State planning reform agenda — TOD, housing policy, the shifting relationship between local and state authority — and you know how to work within it productively rather than reactively. You bring the political acumen to advise an elected body with clarity and confidence, and the leadership depth to manage a large, multi-disciplinary directorate through a sustained period of change.
Strathfield’s planning agenda is complex, visible, and genuinely consequential. If you are looking for a role where the work matters - where the decisions you make shape a real community in a significant way - this is it.
