Linux Engineer – Enterprise Platforms & Automation
12 Month Contract - ACT, Sydney, Brisbane
Baseline Security Clearance Required
$140- 155 p/h including super
Join a high‑performing technology team responsible for building and maintaining the core Linux platforms that keep critical national systems running smoothly. This role focuses on delivering stable, secure and high‑availability environments across Red Hat Enterprise Linux, while contributing to modernisation, automation and continuous improvement initiatives. You’ll work closely with engineers, architects and application teams to design, enhance and support the infrastructure that underpins key business services.
Success in this position requires someone who is proactive, collaborative and comfortable working with colleagues across multiple locations. You’ll stay ahead of emerging technologies, champion secure engineering practices, and help shape the future direction of the organisation’s Linux capability.

What you’ll be doing
- Administer and optimise RHEL environments to ensure strong performance, resilience and security.
- Design, implement and maintain Linux‑based infrastructure solutions in partnership with application and architecture teams.
- Manage incidents, service requests and platform changes while delivering a high standard of customer service.
- Lead and contribute to technical projects including upgrades, vulnerability remediation and platform enhancements.
- Develop automation, monitoring and operational tooling to improve efficiency and system reliability.
- Strengthen compliance and security alignment with internal standards, ISM and Essential Eight requirements.
- Maintain clear, high‑quality documentation and support continuous improvement through root‑cause analysis.
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in IT or equivalent hands‑on experience.
- 5+ years in Linux engineering, system design/build or senior Linux support roles.
- Strong experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux; certifications such as RHCE/RHCSA/RHCA/SCA/SCE are highly regarded.
- Solid understanding of automation, scripting, monitoring and secure engineering practices.
