Senior Electrical Engineer

About the role:

An opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join a highly regarded engineering team delivering complex electrical infrastructure projects across the Telecommunications, Mining, Utilities, Defence, Rail and Energy sectors. This role will focus on providing technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, from concept design and estimation through to procurement, field engineering, testing and commissioning.

You will provide technical assurance across electrical designs, mentor junior engineers and work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver safe, compliant and innovative engineering solutions. This is predominantly an office-based role with occasional travel to project sites throughout Australia.

• Permanent full-time role based in Brisbane with ad hoc site travel
• Up to 190k + super (depending on experience)
• Predominantly office-based with occasional field engineering and commissioning activities

What you’ll be doing:

• Lead the design and development of complex electrical systems across multiple projects
• Provide technical assurance and approve electrical drawings, schematics and engineering documentation
• Design telecommunications power systems including DC power, battery backup, Solar PV, generators and earthing systems
• Develop electrical calculations, specifications, reports, equipment schedules and Bills of Materials
• Perform equipment selection, procurement support and engineering design reviews
• Oversee testing, commissioning and compliance of electrical systems
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior electrical engineers
• Support multidisciplinary project teams throughout design and delivery phases
• Prepare project estimates, schedules and cost-effective engineering solutions
• Liaise with clients, suppliers, contractors and internal stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes

What you’ll need to be successful in the role:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Minimum 8+ years' electrical engineering experience within Telecommunications, Mining, Utilities, Rail, Oil & Gas or Defence sectors
• Strong experience designing power distribution, DC power systems, battery storage, Solar PV and telecommunications electrical infrastructure
• Comprehensive knowledge of Australian Standards including AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3015, AS/NZS 3017 and relevant electrical legislation
• Experience producing and reviewing electrical drawings, schematics and detailed engineering documentation
• Knowledge of High Voltage distribution systems, protection, testing and commissioning
• Experience using electrical design software such as Elek, SKM Power Tools and AutoCAD (MicroStation advantageous)
• Strong technical leadership skills with experience mentoring engineers and providing design assurance
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Current Australian Driver's Licence and willingness to travel to remote project sites as required
