This position sits within a busy 15‑bed emergency department that manages approximately 18,000 presentations per year. The service is fully supported by round‑the‑clock laboratory and radiology teams, including on-site CT scanning.You'll be part of a multidisciplinary group of clinicians including rural hospital specialists, emergency medical officers, and emergency medicine consultants. Their roster offers consistent senior medical officer presence 24/7, and the department currently operates on 10‑hour shifts. Alongside its emergency department, the hospital provides inpatient care, day surgery, a birthing unit, rehabilitation services, an infusion suite, and low‑acuity mental health support.
It operates with 24/7 laboratory and imaging capability, including advanced CT.
As a recognised training site, Thames supports medical students, PGY2 doctors, and registrars across Rural Hospital Medicine and General/Acute Care Medicine. Staff benefit from ongoing education, quality improvement initiatives, strong clinical teaching, and expanding telehealth services that enhance emergency and inpatient care.
