Pay and Hours for Job + Benefits: $60,000 – $70,000 may pay a little more based on experience
Position Summary
The Air Export Lead is responsible for overseeing daily air export operations, ensuring the timely, accurate, and compliant movement of international air freight shipments. This role serves as the primary escalation point for customers, airlines, carriers, and internal team members while providing leadership, training, and operational support to the Air Export team. The Air Export Lead ensures exceptional customer service, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Air Export Operations
- Manage and coordinate end-to-end air export shipments from origin to destination.
- Arrange and book freight with airlines and approved carriers.
- Ensure all export documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with international regulations.
- Track and trace shipments and proactively communicate status updates to customers.
- Coordinate pickup, transportation, airline bookings, and delivery requirements.
- Handle shipment exceptions and resolve operational issues promptly.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and train Air Export Coordinators and Specialists.
- Monitor workload distribution and productivity within the department.
- Assist management with performance evaluations and employee development.
- Foster a collaborative, customer-focused, and results-driven team environment.
Customer Service & Account Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key customers.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Ensure customer requirements and service expectations are consistently met.
- Conduct regular communication with clients regarding shipment status, transit times, and service improvements.
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with TSA, IATA, FAA, Customs, and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate shipment records and operational reports.
- Support internal audits and quality assurance initiatives.
- Identify process improvements to increase efficiency and service quality.
Vendor & Carrier Management
- Develop and maintain relationships with airlines, trucking companies, and overseas agents.
- Negotiate rates and monitor carrier performance.
- Assist in securing capacity during peak shipping periods.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of Air Export Freight Forwarding experience.
- 2+ years of leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of air export documentation and international shipping regulations.
- Experience with CargoWise or similar freight forwarding software.
- Knowledge of TSA, IATA, FAA, and Customs regulations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building abilities.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- IATA Dangerous Goods Certification.
- Freight forwarding experience within a global logistics provider.
- Experience managing KPIs and operational reporting.
