Project Manager

The Opportunity
 
Our client is an established and growing Mining Contractor delivering open-pit mining projects across Western Australia. With a strong pipeline of work, they are looking for an experienced Project Manager to take ownership of a key mining operation.
 
This is an operational role for someone who understands full-service open-pit mining. You know how Drill & Blast, Load & Haul, production, maintenance and technical services need to work together to deliver the plan.
Just as importantly, you understand the commercial side. You know that moving tonnes is only part of the job - the project needs to perform against budget, meet contractual obligations and deliver a commercial return.
 
The Role
 
You will take responsibility for the safe, operational and commercial performance of the project, leading the site team while maintaining a strong relationship with the client.

• Lead the delivery of full-service open-pit mining operations, including Drill & Blast and Load & Haul.
• Take ownership of production, cost, schedule and project performance.
• Manage site leadership, operational and technical teams to ensure everyone is working to the same plan.
• Understand the contract. Monitor performance, identify commercial risk and ensure variations and opportunities are managed appropriately.
• Work closely with maintenance and technical services to maximise productivity, equipment performance and operational efficiency.
• Manage budgets, forecasts and costs with a clear understanding of project margin and profitability.
• Maintain high safety and compliance standards across the operation.
• Build a strong, professional relationship with the client and deal with operational and commercial issues before they become bigger problems.
• Provide clear reporting to senior management on production, safety, costs, risks and overall project performance.

About You
 
You are an experienced Project Manager, Mining Manager or senior mining professional with a strong background in open-pit mining.

• You have strong Drill & Blast knowledge and understand the complete mining cycle.
• You have delivered full-service open-pit mining, ideally within a mining contractor environment.
• You are technically sound. You can challenge a plan, understand mine schedules and work effectively with engineers and technical services.
• You are commercially strong. Budgets, forecasts, contracts, variations, productivity and margin are part of how you manage a project.
• You can lead multidisciplinary teams across operations, technical services, maintenance and contractors.
• You are comfortable dealing directly with clients and senior management.
• You understand WA mining safety legislation and the responsibilities that come with leading a mining operation.
• Quarry Manager qualifications will be highly regarded.
