MAYDAY Recruitment is partnering with a respected membership organisation within the health sector to recruit an experienced Policy & Advocacy Advisor. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about shaping public policy, influencing government decision-making, and driving meaningful change in mental health.

Working closely with senior leadership and key stakeholders, you'll lead the development of evidence-based policy, coordinate strategic advocacy initiatives, and build strong relationships across government, industry, and the broader health sector.

The Role:

  • Monitor and analyse mental health policy, legislation, and emerging issues.
  • Develop policy briefs, submissions, reports, and advocacy materials.
  • Lead the preparation of consultation, pre-budget, and pre-election submissions.
  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government, industry bodies, and key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate collaborative advocacy campaigns and strategic partnerships.
  • Support media and digital communications by preparing content and identifying engagement opportunities.
  • Represent the organisation at meetings, forums, and stakeholder events.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of policy and advocacy initiatives.

About You:

  • Experience in policy development and advocacy, ideally within health, mental health, government, or the not-for-profit sector.
  • Strong understanding of public policy and government processes.
  • Exceptional writing skills with experience producing submissions, briefing papers, reports, and policy documents.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • The ability to analyse complex information and communicate it clearly to a range of audiences.
  • A collaborative approach, with the confidence to work independently and influence key decision-makers.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
