Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Classic Application Software Engineer to join a high-performing team in Sydney. This role is ideal for a senior engineer with strong C development expertise who thrives in fast-paced, high-responsibility environments and enjoys working on mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend solutions using C and Oracle databases
- Build high-availability systems aligned with strict SLA requirements
- Support and maintain real-time, 24/7 middleware systems
- Develop and maintain high-volume, long-running Unix-based server processes
- Troubleshoot performance, reliability, and system issues
- Work independently within a small, focused engineering team
- Mentor junior team members and promote best development practices
- Produce clear technical documentation and specifications
- Over 10 years’ experience in software development (C), including team leadership exposure
- Strong expertise in C, Pro*C, PL/SQL, and Unix development
- Extensive experience in Linux/Unix environments
- Proven experience working with Oracle databases (19c+), including development and administration
- Strong relational database programming skills
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Proficiency with Git for version control
- Operating Systems: Linux, Solaris, AIX
- Languages: C, Pro*C, PL/SQL, Unix Shell Scripting, Python
- Tools: GNU C Compiler, Unix Make
- Databases: Oracle 19c+
- Other: Exposure to Docker/Podman (containerisation), testing frameworks, and secure development practices
- Permanent role based in Sydney
