Quinn Allan has been exclusively engaged by a leading purpose-led organisation to identify a Payroll Manager to join their high-performing team. Based in Geelong, this role will serve as the subject matter expert and provide operational leadership of the payroll function.
Working within a values-driven organisation that delivers charitable and social services across Victoria, the successful candidate will be mission-driven, community-focused, and bring substantial payroll expertise to the role.

About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager of Finance, and with significant exposure to and interaction with Executive stakeholders, this role will be responsible for the strategic direction, integrity and delivery of the payroll function.
The primary purpose of the role is to ensure the accurate, timely and compliant delivery of payroll services, while continuously improving processes, controls and technology. The role leads a team of 1.7 FTE located across multiple sites, with the Payroll Manager based at the organisation’s headquarters.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing and processing end-to-end payroll, ensuring accuracy, compliance and service excellence.
  • Ensuring payroll payments are calculated in accordance with relevant legislation, industrial instruments and award entitlements.
  • Overseeing the reconciliation of all payroll-related activities.
  • Liaising with the People Team to improve workforce practices and drive efficiencies, including administration of workers’ compensation, novated leases and other employee-related payroll matters.
  • Producing reports and analysing workforce data, including FTE movements, leave balances, leave liabilities and staff turnover. These reports are presented at Executive level, requiring strong analytical, reporting and presentation skills.
  • Partnering with key stakeholders to provide payroll advice and subject matter expertise when required.
  • Utilising Power BI for business analysis and supporting the COO and General Manager of Finance with ad hoc reporting and workforce insights.
  • Providing leadership, mentoring and support to a high-performing team.
  • Undertaking additional duties and projects as required.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced payroll professional with a proven track record of delivering accurate, compliant and customer-focused payroll services. You will have previous leadership experience and be comfortable engaging with Executive stakeholders.
Importantly, you will possess a broader commercial understanding of payroll, including its impact on the balance sheet and profit and loss statement, and be capable of contributing beyond the day-to-day operational requirements of the function.

Key skills and attributes include:
  • Experience within the community services or not-for-profit sector is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, UKG and Payroll Metrics is preferred.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships while delivering a high level of customer service.
  • Experience and a strong understanding of EBAs.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and process optimisation.
