The Role

Our client is seeking Aboriginal Health Practitioners to provide culturally safe, competent primary healthcare services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients within correctional settings across Victoria.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will play a vital role in advocating for the cultural and health needs of patients while delivering high-quality primary healthcare services that promote dignity, respect and positive health outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering culturally appropriate primary healthcare assessments, treatment planning and health interventions
  • Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients throughout their healthcare journey
  • Collaborating with nurses, doctors, allied health professionals and correctional staff
  • Advocating for culturally safe healthcare practices and improved health outcomes
  • Participating in multidisciplinary case discussions and care planning
  • Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and patient records
  • Contributing to a respectful, inclusive and patient-centred healthcare environment
  • Working across multiple correctional facilities where required

Requirements

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Relevant qualification in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (or currently studying towards one)
  • Current AHPRA registration as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner (where applicable)
  • Ability to deliver culturally safe and competent healthcare services
  • Experience conducting health assessments, treatment planning and patient care
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Willingness to travel across multiple healthcare locations if required
  • Current Australian Driver's Licence
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance

  • Evidence of COVID-19 vaccinations and annual influenza vaccination
  • Ability to obtain correctional facility security clearance
