PLC Programmer/SCADA Subject Matter Expert

We are seeking an experienced PLC Programmer / SCADA Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a growing portfolio of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and renewable energy projects. This role is responsible for PLC programming, SCADA integration, system testing, and commissioning for utility-scale energy projects while serving as the technical expert for control systems and automation.

Responsibilities

• Develop, program, and optimize PLC logic for utility-scale BESS and solar projects using Schneider M340/M580 PLCs.
• Design and maintain standardized PLC code libraries, templates, and advanced control algorithms for hybrid PV/BESS operations.
• Configure and troubleshoot industrial communications including Modbus, DNP3, OPC, and PLC-to-SCADA integrations.
• Integrate PLCs with Ignition SCADA, HMI, and historian platforms for real-time monitoring and control.
• Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and system integration testing.
• Support commissioning activities through troubleshooting, system optimization, and validation of PLC functionality.
• Execute and support PPA, LGIA, and OEM testing requirements.
• Serve as the technical SME for PLC programming standards, control system architecture, and automation best practices.
• Collaborate with SCADA engineers, project managers, OEMs, and vendor teams throughout project execution.
• Develop Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs), programming documentation, and version control standards.
• Support regulatory compliance efforts, including cybersecurity and NERC CIP documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of PLC programming experience, with strong expertise in Schneider Electric M340/M580 platforms.
• Experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy, power generation, or Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
• Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Modbus, DNP3, OPC, and related technologies.
• Experience with Ignition SCADA platform, HMI development, and SCADA integration.
• Solid understanding of power systems, utility interconnections, and renewable energy controls.
• Experience leading FAT, SAT, commissioning, and system validation activities.
• Experience supporting PPA, LGIA, and OEM testing requirements.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to travel up to 25% for commissioning and project support.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with hybrid solar + BESS control systems.
• Knowledge of energy storage technologies, inverters, and grid interconnection requirements.
• Familiarity with NERC CIP cybersecurity standards and utility compliance requirements.
• Experience developing PLC programming standards and control system documentation.
