About the Role
You'll join an experienced engineering team responsible for providing technical expertise across Tallgrass' pipeline and facility assets. Working closely with Project Management, Operations, Commercial and Environmental teams, you'll help deliver engineering solutions that improve safety, reliability and operational performance.
This role is ideal for engineers with experience in natural gas, crude oil or natural gas liquids (NGL). Experience across all three is not required.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support for pipeline transportation and facility operations.
- Identify and implement technical solutions relating to compressor stations, pump stations, terminals, storage facilities and process plants.
- Evaluate and develop solutions for new and existing pipeline assets.
- Support capital projects from concept through implementation.
- Prepare project scopes, cost estimates and technical recommendations.
- Analyse operational data to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, Commercial, EHS and Project Management teams.
- Support equipment specification, vendor selection and technical evaluations.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable industry codes and regulations.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining high safety standards.
Required Experience
We're looking for engineers with:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil or Petroleum Engineering.
- Mid-Level: 4–7 years' engineering experience.
- Senior-Level: 8+ years' engineering experience.
- Experience within at least one of the following:
- Natural Gas
- Crude Oil
- Natural Gas Liquids (NGL)
- Experience with pipeline facilities including compressor stations, pump stations, terminals or process plants.
- Knowledge of mechanical equipment including compressors, pumps and associated systems.
- Experience supporting facility upgrades and capital projects.
- Knowledge of project cost estimating and project economics.
- Working knowledge of DOT, PHMSA, API and ASME codes and standards.
- Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- FERC-regulated pipeline experience.
- Midstream design experience.
- Project management experience.
- Knowledge of pipeline integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Experience using engineering data analysis tools.
Interview Process

Pay
Mid-Level Engineer (4–7 years)
- $50–$65/hour
- Equivalent permanent salary: $100,000–$135,000
Senior Engineer (8+ years)
- $65–$85/hour
- Equivalent permanent salary: $130,000–$175,000
