Introduction

We are looking for an EHS Manager to join our team at our manufacturing plant in Kakegawa. This role is a key position that reports to the Plant Manager and works closely with EHS teams across China, Japan, ASEAN, and Korea. You will also collaborate with other departments, including operations and engineering, to maintain compliance, improve safety performance, and promote a culture of excellence in environmental, health, and safety practices.

About the Role

The EHS Manager is responsible for ensuring the plant complies with all safety and environmental regulations, identifying and reducing risks, and improving workplace safety and sustainability. You will lead EHS programs, work closely with government agencies, and implement global standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) laws and regulations.
  • Develop and improve plant EHS performance by collaborating with various teams.
  • Communicate with government agencies to obtain necessary EHS-related permits.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of the plant’s annual EHS plan.
  • Conduct onsite inspections to identify safety risks and ensure they are addressed.
  • Oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems.
  • Manage industrial hygiene programs, including noise protection measures.
  • Supervise chemical management, especially for hazardous substances.
  • Lead efforts to prevent pollution, save energy, and manage hazardous waste.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs specific to the plant.
  • Improve safety programs, such as Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Behavior-Based Safety (BBS).
  • Coordinate emergency response, crisis management, and regular drills.
  • Handle other EHS-related tasks assigned by the leadership team.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety, Environmental Science, or Industrial Hygiene.
  • Experience:
  • At least 5 years in EHS roles at multinational manufacturing companies.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience managing a team.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with local EHS laws and regulations.
  • Experience in manufacturing industries like mechanical, electronics, or chemical.
  • Knowledge of machine safety, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and chemical safety practices.
  • Strong leadership and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including cross-border collaboration.
  • Fluent in Japanese and English; knowledge of Chinese or Korean is an advantage.
