My client is an insurance giant, currently looking for a Controls Testing Manager / Business Process Controls Manager to assess whether key controls across core insurance processes (including claims, underwriting, and actuarial) are designed effectively and operating as intended.

The role partners closely with process owners and risk/compliance stakeholders to identify control gaps, drive remediation, and strengthen the control environment. This engagement will begin as a 6-Month contract.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead control testing activities across priority processes and risk areas are aligned to the enterprise control framework and testing cycle.
  • Execute testing to evaluate both control design and operating effectiveness, including development/maintenance of testing approach and test evidence requirements.
  • Manage the end-to-end testing lifecycle: testing selection, walkthroughs/understanding of controls, sample strategy, execution, documentation, and conclusion reporting.
  • Assess findings and root causes: classify control issues, understand failure drivers and support clarity of remediation actions.
  • Partner with business control owners to ensure control descriptions, control language, and evidence are accurate—acting as a credible challenge function rather than a purely administrative tester.
  • Drive quality and consistency of testing deliverables (workpapers, test scripts, reporting packs), ensuring audits/regulatory readiness expectations are met.
  • Support issue tracking and remediation follow-up, including monitoring status and confirming closure evidence where required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the control testing methodologynwhere appropriate.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in control assurance/testing, internal audit, SOX/controls, risk assurance, or Big 4 / audit & advisory work involving control testing.
  • Insurance domain generalist with exposure to claims, underwriting and/or actuarial processes and how controls operate in practice.
  • Experience with data/evidence handling for testing (e.g., use of analytics, SQL, or similar)
  • Strong ability to understand processes, translate them into control requirements, and challenge control owners with a pragmatic, business-focused mindset.
  • Experience leading control testing workstreams across multiple processes and stakeholders; ability to manage timelines and deliver high-quality documentation.
  • Immediate availability is highly desirable.
