Our Federal Government client is seeking a Lead Cyber Vulnerability Specialist / Lead Cyber Security Engineer – Vulnerability Management. This is a 12-month contract with 2 x 12-month extension options, located onsite in Canberra, ACT (5 days per week in the office).

About the Role:
Our Federal Government client is seeking a Lead Cyber Vulnerability Specialist / Lead Cyber Security Engineer – Vulnerability Management. This is a 12-month contract with 2 x 12-month extension options, located onsite in Canberra, ACT (5 days per week in the office).
As the selected candidate, you will:
- Lead vulnerability management activities across complex enterprise ICT environments.
- Identify, assess and prioritise cyber security vulnerabilities across infrastructure, applications and development pipelines.
- Conduct risk-based vulnerability assessments and provide practical, actionable security advice to technical and business stakeholders.
- Perform vulnerability scanning, validation and remediation tracking using on-premises Tenable platforms.
- Analyse security events and conduct cyber investigations using Splunk, including query scripting and event correlation.
- Work collaboratively with infrastructure, application delivery and cyber security teams to reduce cyber risk.
- Support secure-by-design initiatives and contribute to improving organisational cyber resilience.
- Produce clear, decision-ready reports and recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
To be successful in this role you should have:
- Demonstrated experience in cyber vulnerability management, including assessment and prioritisation of CVEs within complex enterprise environments.
- Proven ability to conduct risk-based vulnerability assessments and provide practical security recommendations.
- Strong hands-on experience with Tenable (on-premises platforms) for vulnerability scanning, validation and vulnerability management.
- Strong experience using Splunk for log analysis, SPL query development, event correlation and cyber security investigations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical issues into clear business-focused advice.
- Experience working within Australian Government or other highly regulated environments.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Industry certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, OSCP or equivalent will be highly regarded.
It is desirable if you have:
- Experience in Application Security (AppSec), including secure software development practices and application-layer vulnerabilities.
- Experience assessing software supply chain security and open-source dependency risks.
- Familiarity with secure CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
- Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and contributing to cyber security governance and risk management activities.
