THE OPPORTUNITY
This global leader in sustainable agriculture is seeking a Director of Agroforestry to address the challenges faced by smallholder farm families, focusing on issues such as extreme poverty, climate change, and biodiversity loss.
Here are some specific tasks and responsibilities that you might undertake:
- Improve existing programs that currently serve more than 2 million farm families and produce over 70 million seedlings per year.
- Supervise a dedicated international agroforestry team, will co-lead embedded agroforestry teams in each country program in collaboration with senior program leaders, and report to the Impact Director.
- Drive impactful Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) programs, aiming to plant 1 billion trees by 2030 for substantial impact.
- Collaborate with leaders in 10 markets to optimize country-specific strategies for landholders and environmental outcomes in tree planting programs.
- Evaluate key factors influencing goals, including scale, cost-effective impact, climate resilience, and ecological restoration.
- Lead external engagement in agroforestry, expanding networks and securing funding for operational growth.
- Establish new partnerships to enhance farmer networks, program quality, and explore innovative opportunities.
- Initiate and scale investments for program improvement, including Payments for Ecosystem Service programs and economic opportunities linked to non-timber forest products.

YOUR EXPERTISE
Minimum education/qualification/experience
- 5+ years of leadership and proven expertise in agroforestry, restoration, or related domains in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- University or advanced degree in agroforestry, ecology, restoration, or related fields.
Leadership and behavioral
- Proficient in communication across diverse audiences, including rural farmers, internal teams, external partners, and organizational leaders.
- Successful collaboration with key stakeholders in forestry and landscape restoration, including implementers, technical experts, and policymakers.
Functional and technical
- Familiarity with nature-based carbon projects, including implementation and certification.
- Adept in overseeing high-level teams and orchestrating complex, scalable programs.
- Emphasizes data-driven decision-making, employing structured analysis for fact-based recommendations.
- Proficient in managing multi-year, multi-project budgeting and planning.
