Finance Manager

Our client, a leading player in their industry, is seeking a highly skilled Finance Manager to join their team as a Japan Business Controller.

This role is essential to their financial operations in Japan, offering a dynamic work environment with the flexibility of working from home up to three days a week.

About the Role:

As the Finance Manager, you will report to the Regional Business Controller and play a pivotal role in managing the local finance function. Your responsibilities will encompass accounting, tax reporting, credit control, and external audit coordination.

You will also support the management team in making effective business decisions through accurate and timely financial analysis. This position is based in Yokohama, and it has flexible working hours.

Responsibilities:

• Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring they reflect the company's financial status and analyze variances from budgets and forecasts.
• Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the budgeting and financial forecasting processes, collaborating with department heads to prepare budgets and advise on financial planning and risk management.
• Accounting and Tax: Oversee local accounting tasks and ensure accurate and timely tax reporting, working closely with consultants to support local tax filings.
• Banking and Credit Control: Manage banking tasks and serve as the main contact for core and local banks, ensuring effective credit control for the entity.
• Audit Coordination: Coordinate external and internal audits, lead tasks for annual self-assessment and risk assessment, and ensure compliance with internal control procedures.
• Reporting: Review and approve monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports in the group reporting system, ensuring timely and high-quality reporting.
• Support to Management: Proactively report financial results to the regional stakeholders and support divisional business reviews.
• Team Management: Lead and manage a team of three members, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

Requirements:

• Experience: Over 5 years of experience in finance/accounting, with a solid background in business control being a plus. People management experience and familiarity with ERP systems are advantageous.
• Knowledge: Strong general accounting skills, knowledge of both Japanese accounting standards and IFRS. Proficiency in Excel and fluent communication skills in both Japanese and English are essential.
• Education: A university degree is required.
