About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join a high-performing team responsible for developing, integrating, and supporting complex software solutions within a secure operational environment.
Working within an Agile development framework, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining software applications and automation capabilities, while ensuring systems remain reliable, scalable, and fit for purpose.

Location: The role is based in Canberra ACT.
Contract terms: 12 months from commencement date, plus 2x 12 month extensions

Security Requirements: Candidates must hold an active or reactivatable Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) Security Clearance on submission. Our client is not looking to upgrade an existing clearance for this position. An OSA (Organisational Suitability Assessment) will be required for this position.

Key Responsibilities
- Developing and maintaining complex software applications and services
- Enhancing existing automation capabilities and contributing to the design of new solutions
- Integrating commercial and government-off-the-shelf software products
- Translating technical designs into scalable and maintainable software solutions
- Monitoring and supporting operational systems and infrastructure
- Implementing and maintaining automated testing frameworks
- Designing and developing database solutions for operational environments
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across software development and deployment processes
- Providing technical expertise and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver project outcomes
The Successful Candidate
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate strong software engineering experience and the ability to deliver quality solutions within complex and secure environments.
You will ideally possess:
- Commercial experience developing software using languages such as Python and Java
- Experience with modern automation and configuration management tools including Puppet, Ansible, and Docker
- Experience developing front-end applications using React
- Strong software design and development capabilities
- Experience with systems integration, build, release, and deployment activities
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- The ability to work effectively within Agile delivery teams
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Candidates must also be willing to undergo an Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement.
