Property Accountant

 We're recruiting a Property Accountant for an opportunity supporting a commercial real estate portfolio. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on property accounting experience who enjoys managing the day-to-day financial operations of multiple properties while working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

You'll be responsible for full-cycle property accounting, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting month-end reporting while partnering with both finance and property management teams.

 

What You'll Do

• Manage the day-to-day accounting activities for an assigned portfolio of commercial properties.
• Record rent receipts, maintain tenant accounts receivable, and prepare aging reports.
• Code and process invoices while supporting accounts payable activities.
• Complete full-cycle property accounting, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Prepare monthly operating reports and ensure the accuracy of financial information.
• Identify and investigate non-routine accounting transactions, escalating issues when appropriate.
• Analyze financial information and provide support for reporting and business decisions.
• Maintain accurate accounting records while ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
• Collaborate with finance and property management teams to support daily operations and resolve accounting issues.
• Assist with process improvements and other accounting projects as required.

What You'll Bring

• Minimum of 2 years of property accounting or property management accounting experience.
• Hands-on experience using MRI or Yardi property management software.
• Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and month-end close.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Professional accounting designation, or progress toward obtaining one, is considered an asset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
