Cloud Platform Architect | AWS & Azure Transformation Leadership

We're seeking an experienced Cloud Platform Architect to lead the design and delivery of large-scale cloud solutions across AWS and Azure environments for complex enterprise and government projects.

This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical expertise, giving you the opportunity to influence architecture decisions, mentor engineering teams, and guide organisations through major cloud transformation initiatives.

The Opportunity
As a senior technical leader, you'll work closely with stakeholders to define cloud strategies, modernise legacy environments, and build secure, scalable, and resilient cloud platforms. You'll remain involved throughout delivery, ensuring architectures are practical, achievable, and aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Architecture & Strategy

• Lead the design of enterprise-scale cloud solutions across AWS and Azure.
• Develop cloud roadmaps, target-state architectures, and transformation strategies.
• Advise stakeholders on technology direction, architecture decisions, and platform evolution.
• Facilitate workshops and architectural reviews with technical and business leaders.

Cloud Transformation & Modernisation

• Lead cloud migration and modernisation programs.
• Design secure landing zones, governance frameworks, and operational models.
• Implement scalable solutions across infrastructure, applications, networking, security, and integration domains.
• Drive adoption of cloud-native technologies and modern engineering practices.

Engineering Leadership

• Provide technical leadership throughout project delivery.
• Guide engineering teams on Infrastructure as Code, automation, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
• Review solution designs and implementation approaches to ensure quality and alignment with best practices.
• Mentor architects, consultants, and engineers to build capability across teams.

Governance & Security

• Ensure architectures meet security, compliance, resilience, and operational requirements.
• Establish standards for cloud governance, identity management, observability, and cost optimisation.
• Support risk assessment and architecture assurance activities.

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience

• Extensive experience in Cloud Architecture, Solution Architecture, or Cloud Engineering leadership roles.
• Deep expertise across AWS and/or Azure platforms.
• Proven success delivering large-scale cloud transformation and migration initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native architectures, platform engineering, and modern application delivery.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.
• Strong understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, automation, and engineering best practices.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and consulting skills.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical leadership.

Highly Desirable

• AWS or Azure architecture certifications.
• Experience within complex enterprise or government environments.
• Knowledge of cloud security, governance, networking, identity, and operational excellence frameworks.
• Experience leading multi-disciplinary technical teams.

Non-negotiables

• Australian Citizenship.
• Active NV1 Security Clearance.
• Ability to work from Canberra-based client environments as required.
