We are supporting an international non-profit organization in the search for their Assistant Human Resources Director.

This is a broad and influential role combining day-to-day operational leadership with ownership of important global HR transformation initiatives. Working closely with the Global HR Director, the Assistant HR Director will help ensure that HR services are effective, consistent and fit for a complex international organisation, while leading multiple ongoing projects that strengthen the foundations of the global people function.

The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between different strategic priorities and operational detail. They will bring sound HR judgement, strong project leadership and the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders, country teams and external providers across multiple jurisdictions.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide operational leadership and day-to-day support to the Global HR Director, ensuring the effective delivery of global HR priorities, policies, processes and services across the organisation.
  • Partner with HR colleagues and senior stakeholders to provide practical guidance on organisational, people and workforce-related matters, while promoting consistent, compliant and values-driven HR practices.
  • Support workforce planning, organisational development, employee engagement and broader people initiatives, while monitoring HR service delivery, performance indicators, risks and dependencies and ensuring appropriate escalation where required.
  • Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of global HR policies, systems, governance frameworks and operational processes to enhance efficiency, consistency and employee experience.
  • Provide leadership, coordination and support to HR teams and project stakeholders, fostering a collaborative, customer-focused and high-performing HR function.
  • Lead complex global HR transformation projects from review and design through to implementation, change management and post-implementation evaluation.
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of global payroll operations, including vendor arrangements, service performance, administration processes and governance structures, identifying opportunities to streamline providers, strengthen controls, improve service quality and enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Develop business cases, recommendations and implementation plans for payroll and HR process improvements, managing stakeholder engagement, communications, transition risks and delivery outcomes.
  • Lead the review and alignment of global job grading practices, establishing a consistent and well-governed approach to role evaluation, grading and organisational alignment across multiple countries and regions.
  • Analyse organisational structures, identify inconsistencies and recommend solutions that support fairness, internal equity, organisational effectiveness and workforce planning objectives.
  • Support the development and refinement of job architecture, grading frameworks, role profiles and associated governance processes.
  • Provide regular reporting and strategic updates to senior leadership on project progress, key decisions, risks, outcomes and organisational impact.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience in a senior HR operations, HR business partnering or HR leadership role, ideally within a complex, international or geographically dispersed organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of HR operations, governance, policies, systems, workforce planning and service delivery, with the ability to balance operational priorities with strategic objectives.
  • Proven experience leading HR transformation, organisational change, process improvement or operating model initiatives from assessment and design through to implementation and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing, reviewing or optimising payroll services, outsourced HR providers or other critical HR vendors.
  • Experience in job evaluation, job architecture, job grading, organisational design, role alignment or related workforce framework projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex information, identify practical solutions and develop well-supported recommendations.
  • Excellent project and programme management capabilities, including managing risks, dependencies, timelines, budgets and multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the credibility to work effectively with senior leaders and colleagues across different cultures, regions and organisational levels.
  • A collaborative, pragmatic and service-oriented approach, combined with sound judgement, discretion and a high level of professional integrity.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and able to bring structure, discipline and momentum to evolving priorities and complex organisational challenges.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and agile with the ability to manage day-to-day operational demands while driving longer-term transformation and improvement initiatives.
  • Experience within the nonprofit, humanitarian, development, education, healthcare or other mission-led sectors, and familiarity with multi-country employment environments, required.
  • Fluency in Cantonese, and English are required, Mandarin is highly desirable.
  • Salary budget HKD 60,000 - 65,000.
