Job Description
This position provides technical network communications support. The position possesses functional knowledge pertinent to VoIP phone network (LAN/WAN/Network) communications technologies and is a contributor for the testing, implementing, and maintaining of new equipment. Equipment may include but is not limited to routers, switches, wireless access points and controllers, and VoIP technologies.
 
Primary responsibilities of Network, Voice Unit include:
  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of the SOC voice/video/data wide-area network and legacy systems
  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of statewide voice over internet protocol (VOIP) systems 
  • Sophisticated analyses and configurations for Voice network hardware and software;
  • Maintenance of physical- voice over internet protocol (VOIP) systems and Video
  • Supporting users with phone, and video conferencing services;
  • Maintaining equipment for voice, and video services availability;
  • Maintaining, and monitoring of voice network security under company policies,
  • Maintain and do adds moves and changes on the copper wire plant at SOC sites.
Job Duties
Network Operations and Maintenance (40% of time)
Required tasks to fulfill primary responsibility:
  • Daily add, moves, changes, and incidents 
  • Triage daily tickets and route to the appropriate staff for completion 
  • Daily copper wire plant adds moves and changes

  • Diagnose tickets to see if this position can do the ticket or assign it to the appropriate tech group
  • support the inventory system by helping to do updates in the system.
  • travel to sites to do wiring or work on phones

  • Equipment may malfunction unexpectedly. There may be multiple priorities competing for time.
  • Engage Network Services Manager and/or co-workers as needed to stay on task and find resolution in a timely manner.
  • May require travel.
Project Engagement (10% of time)
Required tasks to fulfill primary responsibility:
  • Order circuits, coordinate matters related to structured cabling, as needed to support project efforts and deliverables.
Provide specific examples of regular, ongoing decisions made by this position related to this duty.
  • Engage vendors or other staff as needed to prioritize and schedule tasks relevant to technical implementations needed by projects.
  • Order hardware, and vendor circuits as needed.
In performing this duty, provide examples of typical problems or challenges encountered by this position, and the guidance used to resolve the problem.
  • There may be multiple priorities competing for this position’s time.
  • Engage Network Services Manager and/or co-workers as needed to stay on task and find resolution in a timely manner.
  • May require travel.
Documentation and Monitoring (15% of time)
Required tasks to fulfill primary responsibility:: 
  • Maintain documentation related to design, configuration, and maintenance of critical Voice infrastructure.
  • Maintain records on maintenance contracts and circuit counts, configuration, and capacity.
  • Participate in incident response and after-action review activities after critical system outages.
  • support the TEMS system by helping to do updates in the system.
Provide specific examples of regular, ongoing decisions made by this position related to this duty.
  • Decide what information is relevant to Voice documentation and how to best present it in a manner that is consistent with Enterprise and agency standards.
In performing this duty, provide examples of typical problems or challenges encountered by this position, and the guidance used to resolve the problem.
  • There may be multiple priorities competing for this position’s time.
  • Engage Network Services Manager and/or co-workers as needed to stay on task and find resolution in a timely manner.
Vendor Engagement (10% of time)
Required tasks to fulfill primary responsibility:
  • Engage vendors and outside consultants as needed to support agencies network communications infrastructure. This includes but is not limited to contacting vendors for assistance with structured cabling, MAC (move/add/change) work, and remote assistance to locations throughout the state.
Provide specific examples of regular, ongoing decisions made by this position related to this duty.
  • Determine tasks needed of vendor and suggest order of execution, if necessary.
  • Schedule meetings / walkthroughs to determine requirements.
  • Request regular status updates on vendor progress.

  • There may be multiple priorities competing for this position’s time.
  • Engage Network Services Manager and/or co-workers as needed to stay on task and find resolution in a timely manner.
  • Vendors may not perform as expected.
Inventory and Asset Management (15% of time)
Required tasks to fulfill primary responsibility: 
  • Manage and maintain inventory records of network  voice hardware and software assets including version software for those devices that require upgrades periodically.
  • support the TEMS system by helping to do updates in the system.
Provide specific examples of regular, ongoing decisions made by this position related to this duty.
  • Decide what type of coverage is needed on certain equipment
In performing this duty, provide examples of typical problems or challenges encountered by this position, and the guidance used to resolve the problem.
  • Be able to keep up with turnover of voice devices
  • Lack of refresh cycles.
  • Not knowing what equipment exists and where.
  • Knowing who in the agencies to work with to gather information.
Other Duties as Assigned (10% of time)
Required tasks to fulfill primary responsibility:
  • Take on additional duties as they arise to fulfill the client's mission and goals.
